How to Merge PDF Files for Free

June 10, 2026 · 4 min read

Combining a few PDFs into one file is one of the most common small tasks in any office job — bundling a cover letter with a resume, stitching together scanned pages, or assembling a report from sections written by different people. It shouldn't require installing software or creating an account, and with a browser-based tool, it doesn't.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to the Merge PDF tool.
  2. Drag in two or more PDF files, or click the upload area to browse for them.
  3. Drag the file list into the order you want the final document to read.
  4. Type a filename if you want something other than the default, then click Merge PDFs.

The merged file downloads immediately — there's no watermark added, no page limit, and no email address required to receive a download link.

Why order matters (and how to fix it if you get it wrong)

Because the merge tool combines files in the exact order they appear in your list, it's worth double-checking the order before clicking Merge. If you do get it wrong, there's no need to start over from scratch: open the result in the PDF Editor, where you can drag individual pages into a new order, delete any that don't belong, or insert more pages from another file.

What merging does and doesn't change

Merging copies each page exactly as it exists in the source file — text stays selectable, images stay at full resolution, and existing page sizes are preserved even if your source files use different page dimensions. It won't remove a password from a protected PDF first; if one of your files is locked, run it through an unlock step before merging.
